A Book for Her is Bridget Christie’s thoughts on feminism alongside her personal experiences as a comedian. In her own words if she can make terrible things funny then she might be onto something. Bridget admits she doesn’t say anything new, but covers feminist issues with humour.
Topics range from politics and the media, to third world countries, and the horrors of female genital mutilation (FGM). Bridget takes on the everyday issues that most women face alongside the hideous crimes that are completely unforgivable. Nobody is above criticism and no subject is off limits. Bridget is blunt and insightful in her satire of both sexist men and feminists themselves. Humorous anecdotes are in stark contrast to the very serious and thought provoking issues she touches upon. At the end of the book you’ll find a reading list, and a personal account which conveys the awful reality of FGM. It’s uncomfortable to read, but I’m so glad I did.
